The main criterion for the further development of the negotiation process is very simple.

Events in the triangle of the USA-Russia-Ukraine have begun to unfold rapidly, even stunningly. Some are already expecting that there will be peace tomorrow, while others are in a panic that Trump will make friends with Putin and force the Ukrainians to peace on Russian terms.

I advise everyone to calm down a little. With Putin and, especially, with Trump, tomorrow may be different than today, and even more so — yesterday. And what they say does not mean that this is exactly how it will be.

The main criterion for the further development of the negotiation process is very simple — this is the agreement and public announcement of the date, place, format and agenda of real working negotiations between Russia and Ukraine moderated by the USA, possibly with the participation of the EU.

If shortly (possibly after Munich, before the end of February) we have specific information about the start of working peace talks, then we can definitely say that the negotiation process has reached a qualitatively new level. And if not, then this will mean that nothing has changed in Russia's position. Putin has simply begun to psychologically work on Trump, but is not going to go for a compromise option to end the war, as Trump's team wants.
